Wrestling Betrayal: Why the Proposed Roman Reigns vs. The Rock Match is a Slap in the Face to Fans

Introduction:
Wrestlemania, the pinnacle event of professional wrestling, showcases the best talent in high-stakes matches. However, recent rumors of Cody Rhodes being pushed aside for a match between Roman Reigns and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at Wrestlemania 40 have left many fans feeling disheartened and betrayed. This blog post aims to shed light on the reasons why this decision is not only an insult to wrestling fans but also a questionable power play by The Rock, who now holds a prominent position within TKO, the owners of WWE.

1. Dismissing Cody Rhodes' Hard Work:

Cody Rhodes, with his undeniable talent and dedication, has worked tirelessly to establish himself as a top-tier wrestler since departing from WWE. Rhodes' achievements in independent promotions, such as AEW, have garnered him a loyal fan base and proven his worth in the wrestling industry. Pushing him aside for a marquee match sends a discouraging message that hard work and skill may be overlooked in favor of nostalgia and star power.

2. Undermining Storytelling and Continuity:

Professional wrestling thrives on storytelling and long-term character development. By pitting Roman Reigns against The Rock, TKO risks disregarding the narrative groundwork laid for Reigns in recent years. As a newly minted board member of TKO, The Rock's involvement can easily disrupt the carefully crafted storylines, leaving fans disengaged and confused. Such creative decisions risk alienating the core audience who invest deeply in the wrestling world's rich tapestry. This hurts Cody most of all. He championed the need to finish his story for over a year. Now, at the last moment, he weakly concedes his spot to The Rock. Winning back to back Royal Rumbles and channeling his father, the late Dusty Rhodes, is moot if he doesn't challenge Reigns. It is made worse if he challenges World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins. Rhodes has three straight pay per view wins over Rollins, one with one arm. Fighting for a title, only created to satisfy Reigns' part-time schedule, is demeaning.

3. The Rock's Power Play:

The Rock's recent appointment as a board member in TKO raises concerns about conflicts of interest and power dynamics within the wrestling industry. While The Rock's celebrity status and wrestling legacy are undeniable, his association with TKO in an executive role adds an extra dimension to this proposed match. It becomes crucial to question the motivations behind this decision and whether The Rock's involvement prioritizes personal gain over the true essence of professional wrestling.

4. Neglecting Fresh Talent:

Wrestling is at its best when it showcases fresh, emerging talent capable of captivating audiences and putting on thrilling performances. Ignoring Cody Rhodes in favor of a match between already established stars sends the message that established names will always overshadow deserving newcomers. This approach stifles innovation and denies fans the opportunity to witness the next generation of wrestling superstars making their mark on the grandest stage of them all.

Wrestling fans invest their time, energy, and emotions into their favorite superstars and their narratives. The rumored decision to push aside Cody Rhodes in favor of a Roman Reigns vs. The Rock match at Wrestlemania 40 feels like a slap in the face to fans who value storytelling, character development, and the hard work of emerging talent. The Rock's newly acquired position within TKO only adds fuel to the fire, raising concerns about power plays and conflicts of interest within the industry. While The Rock's name certainly brings star power, it's crucial not to overshadow the future of wrestling by neglecting deserving talent and compromising the essence of the sport.

Note: If you are a WWE talent on the verge of being future endeavored, or hope to break into the WWE, please don't break any thrones.
